ITINERARY:

We leave either the port of Messina or of Catania, and make the one-hour bus journey to the town of Taormina to begin the shore excursion.

Our walking tour will first visit the ancient Greek Theatre of Taormina, built in the third century BC. Admire the brick ruins set amongst the backdrop of Mount Etna.

Next, we’ll pass by Corvaja Palace, originally built by Arabs who conquered the town in the 10^th century. This leads us to the Duomo, or Cathedral of Toarmina, which we’ll also enter to view the artworks and relics kept inside.

Our Taormina shore excursion will continue with a walk along Corso Umberto, the main street of the town. Full of tourists and locals alike, this street is known for its succession of souvenir shops, boutiques, delis and cafes. It’s not just an elegant place to shop however, look around and you’ll notice the mix of architectural and artistic styles, with buildings dating from different eras.

After the guided tour, we’ll have a little free time to soak up the atmosphere of the town, maybe have a coffee in one Corso Umberto’s characteristic bars. Finally, we’ll return to port for boarding.
