After being immortalised by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, the city of Casablanca is famous worldwide. Originally known as Anfa, Casablanca owes its name to Portuguese sailors who saw a white house as they approached the coast. Our shore excursion not only takes in this port city, but also visits Rabat for a change of pace.

ITINERARY:

Our Casablanca shore excursion will leave port and first head to Rabat, the Moroccan capital. Many tourists never make it here, preferring to stay only in Casablanca but we think this cosmopolitan city is more than worth the short trip.

Rabat mixes the old with the new, so there’s some great sights to see. We’ll start at the majestic Royal Palace, Dar al-Makhzen, built in 1864 and admire its Islamic architecture.

Then we head to the exquisitely decorated Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Hassan Tower. Made of red bricks, the tower was intended to be the world’s largest minaret. However when the Sultan Yacub al-Mansour died, construction stopped and his tower and mosque were never completed. The entrances are guarded by four white horses and the changing of the guard every hour is a unique show.

We’ll then walk through the gardens of Oudayas Kasbah, an ancient fortress dating back to the twelfth century.

Our shore excursion then returns to Casablanca to explore this modern industrial city and its unique architecture, a fusion of modern and Arabic styles.

Lets begin at the Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Morocco, with a capacity for a staggering 105,000 worshippers. This impressive structure also boasts the world’s tallest minaret, which stands 200 metres high and overlooks the city.

Our Casablanca shore excursion continues in the Habous district, where we can see the Royal PalaceMohamed V Square and the residential area of Anfa. We’ll then conclude the tour and return to port by bus.

Note that: The excursion will not visit any shopping district.

*Shore excursions could be subject to variations due to external causes as Cruise Companies politics, weather conditions, duration of the stay of the ship in the port, legal demonstrations
