ITINERARY:
Departing from Porto Torres, our Alghero shore excursion will drive to Capo Caccia. From this towering headland we can enjoy the stunning view of Alghero Gulf and of the neighbouring nature reserve. The bluest waters surrounding these white cliffs will really take your breath away.
We’ll learn about the ‘nuraghe’, which are symbolic of the region. These megalithic buildings were constructed between 1900 and 730BC, and had many different purposes. Sardinia contains some of the largest and best preserved nuraghe, used for worship, housing or as military bases.
Our shore excursion will then continue to Alghero, a beautiful town of Catalan origin. The Alguer (as it is called in Catalan) is also known as Barceloneta, as Catalan is spoken by over 20% of the population.
We’ll wander through the cobbled streets, admiring the ancient towers and fortifications as we go. We’ll see the Church of St. Francis and its grand 14th century cloister.
Before we leave the historic centre and finish our Alghero shore excursion we’ll stop at the Cathedral of St. Mary the Immaculate and its adjoining gothic belltower.
*Shore excursions could be subject to variations due to external causes as Cruise Companies politics, weather conditions, duration of the stay of the ship in the port, legal demonstrations
